Help & frequently asked questions
Questions, answered plainly.
Everything families ask most — the program, the free week, billing, how feedback and AI work, and the Writing Skill Level Test. If your question isn’t here, a real person is one message away.
Section one
The program
What WritePath actually is, what a week looks like, and how it sits alongside school.
What year levels does it cover?
Year 5 through Year 12, as one continuous program. The move from Foundations (Years 5–10) to Applications (Years 11–12) happens automatically — no new sign-up, no new purchase.
What does a week actually look like?
In Foundations (Years 5–10) your child does one module each weekday, and the five build on each other across the week — reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, peer assessment and the writing task, so by Friday the week has gone somewhere.
In Applications (Years 11–12) the week changes shape: three longer sessions built around one substantial article, ending in a full planned and revised extended essay.
The whole cycle is laid out on How it works.
How much time does it take each day?
One module a weekday. The time a module takes varies a great deal — by year level, by module type, and by the student. Each module has a defined start and finish, so your child works through one piece of work and stops, rather than working to a clock. A senior week is three sessions built around that week’s article.
Is this a replacement for school, or extra on top?
Extra, and deliberately so. WritePath is built to do the one thing school cannot do at scale: give a child detailed, individual feedback on their own writing, every single week. A classroom teacher with thirty students cannot mark thirty extended pieces a week, however good they are.
The material is the material their school is already asking of them — taught properly, at their year level, one piece at a time.
What is included in a membership?
One membership covers the whole program — every year from 5 to 12, so the membership does not need renewing or upgrading as your child moves up. It includes:
- Daily Success — the weekday English program.
- Trio Journals — My Story, My Life.
- Personalised feedback on every submission, emailed to your child and to you at the same moment.
- My Account for you and My Learning for each child.
Is it aligned to the Australian Curriculum?
Yes. Every module is written against the Australian Curriculum — year level by year level, strand by strand — so the work your child does here is the work their school is actually asking of them.
We reference the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) to describe the standard our material is written to. This is a reference, not an endorsement: WritePath is not affiliated with, accredited by, or endorsed by ACARA.
My child is already strong at English — or really struggles. Does this still fit?
Both, because the program is sequenced by year level rather than pitched at one ability. A strong writer gets work at the top of their year’s expectations and feedback specific enough to actually move them — the thing bright students most often go without. A struggling writer gets the same week broken into one finishable piece a day, which is usually the real problem: not capability, but nothing ever being completed.
If you are not sure where your child sits, the free Writing Skill Level Test assesses one piece of their writing against their own year’s expectations and tells you where to start.
Section two
The free week & getting started
No card, no countdown, nothing that converts on its own.
Can I look at the actual material before signing up for anything?
Yes. The Start Free Trial page has an open sample library — the real first week of every year from 5 to 12, module by module, with nothing behind a login. Read them, and if they look right, start the week.
How does the free first week work?
Start with a full week of the real program — no card, no commitment. Nothing is charged automatically, and the week doesn’t turn into a paid plan on its own. You only subscribe if you decide it’s worth it.
Do I really not need a credit card?
You really don’t. We never ask for card details to start the free week, which means there is nothing sitting there to be charged when it finishes. If you decide to continue, you subscribe deliberately — that is the only way money changes hands.
How do I start?
Go to Start Free Trial and give us three things: your email, your child’s first name, and their year level. That is the whole form. Your child’s first module is ready straight away.
What happens when the free week ends?
Nothing automatic. If you want to continue you choose a plan; if you don’t, the account simply doesn’t convert and you are not charged. You will not find yourself on a subscription you didn’t agree to.
Can I try it myself before I put my child on it?
Yes, and plenty of parents do. On the Start Free Trial form there is an option for exactly this — tick it and the week is set up for you rather than for a child, so you can read the modules and see the feedback before deciding whether it is right for your family.
I have more than one child. Can they both try it?
Yes — run the form once per child, with each child’s own year level, so each one gets the week that matches where they actually are. Once you subscribe, they sit together on one membership.
Section three
After you subscribe
Registering your child, signing in, and what you control from My Account.
I’ve subscribed — how do I register my child?
It takes about a minute. You add each child with just their name, year level and an email — a Gmail lets them sign in with one tap, any other email works with a quick emailed code (no password to remember). From your My Account you stay in control: change a child’s year level anytime, update the single feedback email where every child’s reports are sent, review your billing, and open each child’s My Learning to see their weekly modules, recent scores and what’s coming next. Your child just signs in and starts today’s module.
How does my child sign in? Is there a password?
No password, on purpose — forgotten passwords are the single most common reason a child stops doing something online.
If their email is a Gmail, they sign in with one tap. Any other email works too: they enter the address, a code arrives, they type it in. There is no app to install either — it runs in a browser on whatever they already use.
What if I have more than one child?
One membership covers up to three children. Choose how many when you subscribe — monthly or yearly — and add or remove a child anytime from My Account. The price adjusts to the number of children on the plan.
Can I change my child’s year level later?
Yes, any time, from My Account. It matters more than people expect: the year level decides which week of material your child is served, so if you started them a year out, moving it puts them straight onto the right work.
Where does my child’s feedback go?
To your child, and to you, at the same moment. Your account has a single feedback email — every child’s reports arrive there, so you have one place to look rather than feedback split across different addresses. You can change that address whenever you like from My Account.
What is My Learning?
Your child’s own page. It shows this week’s modules, what is done and what is left, their recent scores, and what is coming next. You can open it yourself from My Account — so you can see where they are without asking them.
We missed a few days. Do we fall behind?
Not in any way that matters. The program is sequenced, not timed — the modules wait. Holidays, illness and busy weeks are normal, and nothing is lost by skipping them. The only thing worth protecting is the habit of finishing the piece your child has started.
Section four
Billing & plans
What you pay for, how to stop, and what happens in between.
What does it cost?
One price covers the entire program — all eight years, Daily Success and Trio Journals together. There are no per-module fees, no upgrades, and no extra charge when your child moves up a year.
The price depends on two choices only: how many children are on the plan (up to three), and whether you pay monthly or yearly. The current figures for your country are shown live on the Pricing page — we don’t print them here so you are never quoted a number that isn’t yours.
Monthly or yearly — what’s the difference?
The program is identical either way. Yearly is billed once and saves up to 18% over the same period; monthly is billed each month with no commitment beyond the month you are in. Monthly keeps things flexible; yearly is for families who already know they are in for the year.
How do I cancel — and when does it stop?
Anytime, from My Account — no phone call, no waiting. Your plan stops renewing, and you keep access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. You’ll always see your next billing date before you’re charged.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — in the first 30 days. If it isn’t right for your child, open My Account, cancel the membership, then use the Request refund button beside it. We refund what you have paid in full, you don’t need to give a reason, and the promise is available once per family.
After that, we don’t refund a change of mind mid-period — but you can cancel anytime and keep access to the end of the period you have paid for, so there is nothing to be stuck in. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply. The detail is in our Refund Policy.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No lock-in, no app to install, no password to remember. Choose monthly or yearly (yearly saves up to 18%), and cancel whenever you like. If it isn’t right for your child, there is a full refund in the first 30 days. Monthly keeps things flexible; yearly is for families who already know they’re in for the year.
Can I add a child to my plan later?
Yes — add or remove a child from My Account whenever you need to, and the price moves to match the number of children on the plan. You are never asked to start a second membership for a sibling.
Can I pause instead of cancelling?
There is no pause button, but you rarely need one: because there is no lock-in, cancelling and coming back later costs nothing, and your child’s place in the sequence is where they left it. If you would rather we handled it for you, email hello@writepatheducation.com.
Section five
Feedback, AI & honesty
The questions we would want answered straight if it were our child.
How is feedback given?
Within minutes of each submission, personalised feedback reaches your child — and the same feedback reaches you, at the same moment, by email. There is no dashboard to log into and no extra step for the family. You see the work being done as it happens.
Is AI used — and can you tell if my child used AI to answer?
Two questions, and both deserve a straight answer.
On our side: yes. WritePath uses AI to help produce learning content and to assess open-answer responses, always inside human-designed curriculum and feedback frameworks. The pedagogy and the curriculum are human decisions, and your child always produces their own writing.
On detection: nobody can be one hundred per cent certain whether a piece of writing was produced by a person or a machine, and we won’t claim otherwise. What we can do is show you what we saw. Every Writing Task submission carries a short For parent only note beneath the assessment summary:
- Total time taken — from the first word to submission. A piece saved and finished in a later sitting counts the sittings, not the gap between them.
- Estimated focused writing time — only the stretches the piece was actually being worked on. Long pauses and time away from the page don’t count.
- How the piece arrived — how much of the final text was pasted in, and how much was typed in the window.
- AI-authorship likelihood — our estimate of how likely the piece was generated rather than written by a student in that year. It reads the writing itself and estimates.
These are signals to help you judge, not a verdict, and none of them is proof on its own. Both times are measured in the browser: useful context, not a judgement. But a high likelihood on a piece that arrived pasted in whole, a minute after it was opened, is worth a quiet conversation at home.
Is the writing feedback a definitive grade?
No, and we would rather say so. Writing feedback is one informed assessor’s view of one piece of writing — it exists to teach, not to grade definitively. Different markers, human ones included, weight different things. What makes it useful is not the score on any single piece but the pattern across a term.
What if the feedback looks wrong?
Reply to the feedback email and a person reads it. If we got something wrong we will say so and correct it — and if the mark was right but the reasoning wasn’t clear enough, that is our problem to fix, not your child’s.
Is the content age-appropriate?
Yes. Reading material, writing tasks, feedback and tone are all written for the age of the student at each year level — a Year 5 module and a Year 11 module do not sound remotely alike. Details of content standards, child safety and data handling are on the Trust & Safety page.
Is my child’s information safe?
Yes. We never sell data, and the AI that helps mark work is not permitted to train on your child’s writing. You can read exactly what we collect, where it’s stored, and how to request deletion on our Trust & Safety and Privacy pages.
Section six
The Writing Skill Level Test
A free assessment of one real piece of your child’s writing, against their own year’s expectations.
What is the Writing Skill Level Test?
Your child writes one piece, on a topic they choose from a short list set for their year. We assess it against Australian year-level expectations and send back two things: a level, and where in the program they should start.
It is the same marking your members receive on their weekly writing — which is rather the point. You get to see the actual product before paying for anything.
Is it really free? Do I need an account?
Free, and no account. You give an email address so the report has somewhere to go — nothing else. There is no card, no sign-up step and no subscription attached to it.
How long does it take?
Setting it up takes under a minute. The writing itself is up to your child — most take somewhere around half an hour, and there is no timer. Their work saves as they go, so they can close the tab and come back to it.
Can I set it up and let my child do it on their own?
Yes, and that is how most families use it. You set the year level only, then send your child a link. They open it, pick whichever topic appeals to them and write.
The topic is deliberately left to them. A child writes better on something they chose, and the result is more honest for it.
Who marks it — a person or AI?
The same way members’ weekly writing is marked: AI assessment working inside a marking framework and rubric designed by people, against the expectations for your child’s year. It is not a person reading it one at a time, and we will not pretend otherwise. If anything in what your child writes gives us cause for concern, a person does look at it.
What do I actually get back?
An emailed report in two parts.
First, the result: one overall level for the piece, the concern you told us about answered with evidence quoted from your child’s own writing, and a specific starting point — the actual week of the actual program we would put them in, and what the first weeks there would work on.
Then, the feedback itself: the full written feedback on that piece, in exactly the form your child would receive it every week as a member.
What do the levels mean?
There are four, each judged against what is expected of your child’s own year level — not against other children who took the test.
- Exceeding — working confidently above what the year expects.
- Strong — meeting the year’s expectations.
- Developing — approaching them, not yet consistent.
- Needs additional support — working below the year’s expectations; a targeted rebuild is worth doing.
We describe levels in the same plain terms families see on NAPLAN reports, assessed against Australian year-level expectations by WritePath’s own marking system. This is not NAPLAN, and not a school report.
What happens to my child’s writing afterwards?
It is used to produce the report, and for nothing else. It is never sold, and the AI that assesses it is not permitted to train on it. Every report carries a deletion link, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by replying to the email. The full detail is on Trust & Safety.
