Y06W42PA - A Warm Noticeboard Response

This week you wrote a community notice thanking people for supporting a fundraiser. Now you'll read another student's notice and decide how strong it is. Every module sharpens how you spot strong writing — and helps you fix your own.

Part 1

The Assessor Scorecard for

Transactional – Community notice

Markers look for notices that share clear news in a warm tone the community can connect with. Check each strand below to see what strong work looks like.

Ideas & Content

Clear facts about the event — what happened and when. A reason the event mattered to the community. No vague language about "the cause" or "the day."

  • Clear information about: the event and why it mattered.

Structure & Cohesion

Headings or short paragraphs so readers can scan. One main idea per section, easy to find. A layout that fits a noticeboard, not a long letter.

  • Easy-to-scan layout that: helps readers find information.

Audience & Purpose

Warm and appreciative — not stiff or chatty. Tone that fits a thank you to neighbours. Language that feels honest, not over the top.

  • Appropriate, warm tone: that builds community connection.

Language Choices

Honest words that match the occasion. No clichés like "from the bottom of our hearts." Language that sounds like a real person wrote it.

  • Genuine language that: feels real to the occasion.

Conventions

Spelling and grammar that don't trip the reader up. Clear formatting — headings, breaks, sign-off. A pattern of mistakes lowers the mark — one or two does not.

  • Accurate mechanics and: clear formatting.

Part 2

Today’s Marking Targets

Task in one sentence

Write a noticeboard notice thanking the community for supporting the fundraising afternoon tea in a warm, clear tone.

Let’s Focus

Two strands matter most this week: Audience & Purpose and Conventions. The tone decides whether the community feels the thanks. The spelling and format decide whether the notice looks polished.

Audience & Purpose

Strong writing this week sounds warm without being sloppy. The notice thanks the community and names what was achieved. It points to why the event mattered — supporting a family in need. The tone fits the occasion: caring, honest, real.

What markers scan for

  • Look for phrases that show real thanks.
  • Notice how the writer names what was raised.
  • Check the closing invites future action without pressure.

Score Bands

  • Basic

Addresses the community but tone doesn't feel warm.

  • Strong

Holds a warm tone; clearly thanks the community for their part.

  • Excellent

Warm tone throughout; the thanks feel real and bring people together.

Conventions

Strong writing this week is accurate, even in a short notice. Spelling slips like "supoort" instead of "support" break the polished tone. Missing commas in lists or short phrases pull the reader off. Headings and sign-off must look clean too.

What markers scan for

  • Check spelling throughout, especially in key words.
  • Look at punctuation in lists or longer sentences.
  • Notice the format of the heading and closing.

Score Bands

  • Basic

Formatting is there but spelling or punctuation slips appear.

  • Strong

Correct formatting; mostly accurate writing with only minor slips.

  • Excellent

Clear formatting; writing is accurate throughout.

Written by a Year 6 student in Altona Meadows, Victoria, Australia.

Dear Neighbourhood, We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported the afternoon tea fundraiser last Saturday. Your generous hearts and kind donations have made a real difference. What We Achieved The event raised $1,850—more than we ever expected. Every dollar will go directly to the family who needs our supoort during this difficult time. Why This Matters Our community's strength is in how we care for each other. When times are hard, we show up. Your attendance, your donations, and your warm wishes showed this family that they are not alone. What's Next The family has asked us to share their thanks. They are grateful beyond words. We will continue to check in with them in the coming weeks. Thank you for being the kind of community that acts with compassion. With gratitude, Community Fundraising Group
