The Writing Skill Level Test

Free About 20 minutes Report & full feedback to your inbox

Your child writes one piece, right here. We mark it against Australian year-level expectations — then the level report and the full written feedback are emailed to you.

This is WritePath’s own test, marked with the same rubric our members’ work is marked with. It isn’t NAPLAN — and doesn’t pretend to be.

Part 1 — Delivery details

Let us prepare the delivery of this test.

The report and the full written feedback are emailed the moment marking finishes — tell us where to send them, and who is sitting the test.

The report goes here.

First name only — never a surname.

We’ll pay closest attention to it in the report.

Not sitting with your child right now?

Set the year below, then send them a link — they choose their own topic and write whenever they’re ready. The report still comes to you.

Part 2 — Question topics

Choose your year level.

The question depends on the year. Pick the band, confirm the year, then choose the topic your child would rather write about.

The question · appears when you choose a year

Your child’s writing question will appear here — with its stimulus line, in full, before anyone writes a word.

Part 3 — The writing

Write your best piece.

There’s no pass or fail — this simply tells us what to help with next. Around 25 minutes is plenty; take what you need.

● Saved on this device as you write

When it’s submitted we mark it and email the level report plus the full written feedback — usually within a few minutes.

Build note: marking isn’t connected yet, so nothing was sent and nothing was lost — the writing is still saved on this device. Set WLT_ENDPOINT at the top of this template to the WPE WLT ENGINE web-app URL (see WLT_DEPLOY_GUIDE.md).

The writing is in.

We’re marking it now. The level report and the full written feedback will reach your email — usually within a few minutes.
