A case study is a close look at one real or realistic example so you can understand how something works in practice. Writers use it to inform you by showing a process, a problem and the steps taken to improve it. You will usually see facts, observations, choices, setbacks and results, often organised in stages with headings, sections or boxes that highlight key parts of the example. As you read, you are expected to follow the sequence carefully, notice cause and effect and work out why the strategy changes over time.
